PROJECT ROMANIA 2003
Primary Objectives: Create a sense of mission in our young people, by making a tangible difference in a limited period of time, in a place where a little goes a long way.
Other Objectives:
-
Enhance the spiritual growth of our young people.
-
Create new friendships with other SDA young people.
-
Provide an opportunity to reach out to non-SDA friends who may otherwise not have the opportunity to participate in such a project.
Where: Bolentin de Vale – is a small Romanian village about 15km from Bucharest. It is a village where a SDA church is currently being built. It has half a dozen members and about a dozen volunteers to assist in the evangelistic work. Standards of living and living conditions in the village are extremely poor. It is a place where there is interest in the Adventist message. Why “Project Romania”:
-
Current projects only provide for a small percentage of Scottish young people.
-
A link with the village has already been created by the involvement of Irvine Company, as well as one of our current employees.
What: There are several aspects to the project, as well as several areas where we can be of assistance.
-
Maintenance:
-
Assist in the completion of the local church.
-
Assist in repair of two houses belonging to members of the community. The houses are uninhabitable.
-
Assist the community, by repairing a wing of the local hospital. (recently considered for closure due to lack of funds for maintenance).
-
Another alternative is the local school, in great need of repairs.
-
Pathfinder Work:
-

Who: The team will be made up of mainly young people over 20’s; spiritual leaders as well as professionals; Seventh Day Adventists as well as non members of the church.

Individual Costs: These costs can be covered by individuals, or via organised fund raisers. The money thus collected will be pulled together and shared equally among the members of the team.
