PROJECT ROMANIA 2009

Well, well!  It has been quite a journey!  We worked together, traveled together, worshiped together, ate together and served together.  What we hope is that this project challenged you, encouraged you and most importantly, brought you close to God.  I, for one, am very proud of who you are and what you accomplished as a team!  May God richly bless you for your commitment and passion!  Blessings, M

IMPORTANT

  • IMPORTANT: In order for us to better plan the project, it will greatly benefit us to know who else is going to take part in the project.  Because of the significant interest shown in this project, we will need to limit the number of participants to 25.  Therefore, any young people interested in participating in the project (from Bucharest, Bacau, or Romanians from other countries - including those who have already made contact with us), please send this application form filled in to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  The deadline is 5th July 2009.
  • The cost of the food for the duration of the project is 100 Euros per person (payable to Marcel at the start of the project).  Besides this, we will welcome any further donation towards the cost of the project itself (the materials necessary for the building of the house).  Just as a guide, the young people from Scotland are raising £500 each and have worked hard over the months to collect the money.
  • During the project, you can contact any of the team members on Marcel's local number: 0040 746 986 312.

Location: Podisu, com Margineni, jud Bacau.

Background

Background:

  • The Mother: Elena, 40 years old, housewife, seriously ill, bouts of high temperature – there are already plans to help her go to hospital in order to deal with the situation
  • The Father: Stefan, 52 years old, works as a daily worker
  • The Children:
  1. Mihaela (girl): 9 years old: came first in her class at school, and has a good academic record.  She has also been selected to participate in a national mathematics competition (one of the most demanding in the country).
  2. Ionel (boy): 7 years old, will start school in September 2009
  3. Iulian (boy): 5 years old
  4. Ana (girl): 3 years old.
  • They live in an outdoor building, on the same land as his mother.  Because of her opposition to their relationship, his mother refused to accommodate them in her house, and therefore, they live in a make shift building.
  • They only have one room, where they sleep and cook.  They all sleep in the same bed and there is no running water or electricity in the 'house'.  Because of their lack of any other furniture, the children do their homework on the shared bed.
  • Income: The government benefit for the children (equivalent with about GBP 40 a month); The father’s income – during a good month is around GBP 50
