This is an exploratory page for those who are brave enough to dare to do things differently. The purpose of this page is to post your ideas. I will start off with some suggestions, then, if you would like to comment or add to them, please write to marcel and they will be posted here. Give it a try!
- In April 2006, Karoline suggested a possible voluntary position in Scotland to work specifically with the young people in the various churches. Here is her proposal.
- Following the successful Youth Leadership Convention in Spain, Karoline followed up her passion for working with youth by suggesting a further development of her earlier ideas. Have a look and tell us what you think!
- During our recent Multicultural Exchange Conference in Crieff, a number of us put together some ideas on worship. The purpose was to find what elements are essential to worship and then suggest a variety of ways of facilitating worship in a variety of contexts. Here are some of those suggestions.
- And then, of course, there are the bits of info we bump into as we drive, sleep, dream and read. Here are a couple of them:
- Teenagers are heat-seeking missiles. They're drawn to fire. They yearn for experiences that will channel their passions. And by and large they are not detecting many signs of life in the church.' Cuyler Black 'Jesus, Britney and Thermodynamics' Fellowship Magazine, June, 2001 as quoted in 'Practicing Passion: Youth and the Quest for a Passionate Church' by Kenda Creasy Dean, xi
- 'My God, how I burned with longing to have wings to carry me back to you.. altough I had no idea what you would do with me!' Augustine, Confessions, 59 as quoted in 'Practicing Passion: Youth and the Quest for a Passionate Church' by Kenda Creasy Dean, xi
- 'Because adolescense is shot through with passion, young people number among God's most combustible creations... Human beings are created to seek God - homo religiosus. Young people, who by definition must figure out how to be human, may not know that their quest for 'a love worth dying for' is a quest for the Love who died for them. What compels them to search at all is God's gift of passion, the deep human longing for authentic love - a longing present in each of us, but acute during adolescense.' Practicing Passion: Youth and the Quest for a Passionate Church' by Kenda Creasy Dean, xv
- 'Adolescents are searching for something, for someone, 'to die for'...: a cause worthy of their suffering, a love worthy of a lifetime and not just a Sunday night. in short, they are searching for passion even - maybe especially - in church. Teenagers will not settle for a God who asks for anything less. If we are honest, neither will we.... The Passion of Christ is good news to adolescents, not because Jesus suffers, but because Jesus loves them with such wild, passionate hope that even death on a cross cannot stop his determination to win them. Adolescents do not want to suffer, but they do desperately want to love something worthy of suffering, and to be so loved.' Practicing Passion: Youth and the Quest for a Passionate Church' by Kenda Creasy Dean, xv
